Taste and aroma

With Girl Scout Cookies and Sherbet as two of its parents, Gelato Autoflower was always going to be a delicious desert strain. The sweet and minty flavor with fruity, floral, and vanilla ice cream notes makes consumers crave toke after toke.

If growing indoors, particularly if it is a stealth grow, it is advisable to get a good carbon filter and extraction system in place first. Once Gelato Auto reaches the flowering stage the smell really becomes noticeable. Although the aromas are quite pleasant with hints of vanilla, fruit and pine you cannot mistake that obvious musky cannabis smell that will quickly fill your grow room and the rest of your house if you are not careful.

Once harvested, break open one of those nugs and you will get a waft of sugar and cream making you realise why it got its name.

Growing Gelato Autoflower seeds

The plant is short, bushy, and sturdy. Its compact nature makes it an ideal indoor strain. It takes 8-10 weeks from seed to maturity, producing 400-500 grams/m². Its buds are dense and take on a frosty look. The leaves have a bright green hue, and the pistils are pink-orange.

Gelato Auto is relatively high yielding for an autoflower, however if you want to really boost bud production this strain tends to respond well to topping and fimming. Topping is a process whereby you cut the top growth part of the plant above the node. This results in the stem immediately below growing into two main branches which allows your plant to develop more bud sites.

Be careful with growing Gelato Auto, take time and care when training, and try to avoid too much HST. When topping it is best to do this once the plant has developed 4-5 nodes which is typically around one month after germination. Only use this method early on however, so as to allow the plant to have fully recovered from any stress well before the buds begin to fully develop.

Gelato Autoflower is incredibly sticky, and you may require the help of a grinder to break the buds apart.

How fast does Gelato Auto grow?

Gelato Autoflower grows at an average pace for an autoflowering strain, it has a flowering time of 8-10 weeks. From seed to harvest it will take 12-14 weeks to grow.

How big do Gelato Autoflower plants get?

An average Gelato Autoflower plant can yield 400-500g/m2 and will be less than 100cm tall. In real terms this means you would expect it to produce 30-150 grams per plant. This is all dependant on the pot size, light potency, nutrients, climate and plant training techniques used.

How many weeks should I flower Gelato Autoflower?

Gelato Auto will begin to flower within 3-5 weeks of breaking the surface of the soil. Once you see the first signs of preflowers this is when you should begin keeping track of flowering time, it should take between 8-10 weeks to reach maturity from this point. However, don’t just use time as your measure of maturity. The correct method is to check the appearance of the trichomes and when they have begun to turn cloudy with a few amber, you know your plant is ready for harvest.
