Growing Purple Afghan seeds
Thanks to its strong landrace genetics Purple Afghan is incredibly robust and is resistant to common pests and diseases. It is a very stable strain which makes it a great choice for beginners. Staying relatively short Purple Afghan will grow in a typical indica fashion reaching heights of 100-150cm making it easily manageable in most indoor grows.
Because the foliage can grow very dense, regular pruning will aid bud production and increase yield. Although only do this towards the latter stages of vegetative growth and remove no more than 10-15% of the lower down fan leaves at a time to avoid stress.
Flowering in around 8-9 weeks, if growers want to get quick results, you can cut the veg stage down to 4-5 weeks, although yields will be small it shaves off a 3-6 weeks from the overall grow time.
Many growers will try to get the most purple from a strain like this as possible. And although this strain is called Purple Afghan, some phenotypes do not show its vibrant hue quite as much. However, if purple is what you want then try dropping the night time flowering stage temperatures down by up to 20 degrees. This is best done during the later stages of flowering. This exposure to much lower temperatures causes chlorophyll (chlorophyll gives a plant its green color) to break down and forces the plant to produce more anthocyanins which is the pigment that gives it its purple color.
